Seeing dead people can be very unnerving but not for Bob and his friends. Tune in to Crossings for spooky misadventures, writes BIBI NURSHUHADA RAMLI.

NOT all souls rest in peace. Apparently, secrets brought to the grave often hold back the dead from crossing over into the afterlife. Issues of the dead and one man’s ability to see ghosts make up the premise of ntv7’s 13-episode dark comedy series Crossings. Directed and produced by BMW Shorties’ winner, Prakash Murugiah, Crossings features a talented line-up The show stars writer and producer-turned-actor Zakizamani Osman as lead character Bob Boroi, alongside TV/stage actress Dira Abu Zahar as tough filmmaker Katie and host/actor Hansen Lee as boyish inventor Danny. Bob works as a copywriter in an advertising agency where he is heckled by his demanding boss, Miss Merlin (Nina Sharil Khan) and bullied by the receptionist and “office queen”, Anthony (Xavier Fong). Bob is also constantly manipulated by the devious office beauty, Brenda (Ruzana Ibrahim). The pudgy Bob is a pushover and doesn’t have much going for him.

One day, he gets into a freak accident and starts seeing the dead. He slowly adapts to his ability and learns that he is a hero in his own way. By helping the lost souls seek closure, Bob inadvertently helps the people they left behind to move on too.

Bob is later befriended by Katie, the tomboyish and street-smart filmmaker, who joins his company. During their first attempt to get rid of his first ghost, the duo gets to know Danny, a boyish geek. Danny invents contraptions which he thinks can detect supernatural beings and elements. The trio end up being good friends and land in many comic situations.

Crossings features an interesting mix of talented guest actors such as Craig Fong, Indi Nadarajah, Ako Mustapha, FHM Girl Next Door Yvonne Sim, Chew Kin Wah, James Lim, Alan Yun, Julia Ziegler, Mustapha Kamal and Prem of FlyFm.

Besides a stellar cast and well-written script, TV buffs can also look forward to the slick cinematography and editing. “Crossings is truly a Malaysian show as it features a diverse cast,” said Prakash. “The dialogue is predominantly in English and Malay, while certain episodes include Cantonese and Tamil. The series also has a solid and entertaining storyline.” For a good laugh on Friday nights, don’t miss Crossings on ntv7, starting today at 8.30pm.
